Shift Asset

You can shift record locations along a datum network element by entering the measure along the datum network element where you want the shift to start, and the distance of the shift. The adjustment length can be positive or negative.

To open the Shift form, ensure that the layer for the datum element is selectable. Use the Selection tool to select the datum from the map. Open the datum to the Datum Attributes form and select Shift from the Actions menu dropdown.

There are two mandatory fields in the Shift form, the Start location for shifted measures and the Shift Distance - which is the distance that the measures to be moved.

The following rules apply to assets and other events located on an Element when a Shift operation is carried out:
  • A Shift is not allowed if it would result in the start or end of an Asset record to be located beyond the end of the Element.
  • A Shift is not allowed if it would result in a continuous Asset record having a zero length.
  • If an Item spanned the entire length of an Element a Shift operation would maintain this relative location.

The following figures show two example shift operations:

Example Shift 2

Shown here is an example of a datum network element after a shift is performed. In this scenario, a shift is started from 40 with a distance of 10. This means that:
  • Event 4 will remain as-is (shift is after its offset)
  • Event 2 that was ending on 5 now moves its end by 10m and event 3 will move its start by 10m
  • And THEN the opposite is done. There is a shift at 50m with a distance of -10. So basically, there is a return of the event to their original position
